Well it has been 3 years or may be more, i don't actually remember when this idea of sharing my thoughts came for the first time but somehow i never did.Now that i finally created my own blog i really don't know what to share. So I will start with a picture.
Well he has announced that he is going to retire after his 200th test that is going to be played from the 18th of November this year against the Westindies..
So how does this affect my life? It may feel stupid if I said it will. Cricket is just a game and he has decided that he had enough. But why do I feel sad when I look at his retirement news? Why this numbness when I knew that it was inevitable. There may be probably millions out there who are feeling in the exact same way but do not understand why. Sachin played a game which we liked to watch but so did hundreds of other players. Is it because he is an Indian? No that cannot not be it . The answer to this question cannot be that simple. We felt bad when other Indian greats like Dravid,Ganguly,Laxman or Kumble retired but never felt sad. There was never this feeling of emptiness. What's so special about Sachin that from the last two days after he announced that he is going to retire, I had to watch his best innings on YouTube again and again. Why did i keep on checking twitter feed every five minutes. Why did i open Sydney Morning Herald's website to see what they had to say about him. Now I slowly realize why? It is gradually dawning upon me that Sachin did not play a game I liked to watch. I watched the game because Sachin was playing it. It has to be this or how else can i explain my changing of channel whenever he got out. Why else would I watch a domestic match between Mumbai and Railways when there is an ODI between India and Pakistan?
Yes that is it. Cricket for me was Sachin. Now that he has decided to hang up his boots, I may still watch the game but it will just be a game for me. I am surely not the only person who is feeling like this. For millions of people come November 24th Cricket will just be a game.
